Tonight I'm Yours!!!
That is the slogan written across the T-shirt of one of the teachers at my school. Perhaps I should remind everyone here that the school I work at teaches (equivalent to) grades 7-9.
When I asked my "Japanese teacher" (she's become more of a conversation buddy, and history/culture teacher) why people wear such random (and often non-sensical) phrases on their clothes, she responded that she wasn't sure, but thought it was because "English looks cool". At this point, I remarked that the whole idea was a little silly, but then she reminded me that often Westerners will wear clothes with Japanese or Chinese characters on them, and THEY don't make any sense either (ex "horse rice"). Sometimes Westerners are duped into thinking that it's poetry, but apparently that is a load of crap. So, Japanese people often laugh at us for doing the same thing they do.
On a side note, I went to Tokyo last week for "Golden Week". Golden week is the week where, the weekend before the Friday is a national holiday, and on the actual week the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are holidays, but people go to work on the Monday and Friday. I stayed in a capsule hotel for 3 nights. Stay tuned for updates when I'm not to lazy to write more about it. There will be pictures!!!
